Sample Lesson: Color Theory

Learning Objectives:

  • Light waves and the anatomy of human eyes gives us the ability to see color

  • Correct terminology when using color

  • Primary and secondary colors of both pigment and light

  • Reading an artists color wheel

  • Differentiate the difference between additive and subtractive color mixing

  • Understanding emotions that color can evoke

  • Mixing pigment and light practically

Lecture:

  •  PowerPoint

Lab:

  • Color media with lighting instruments

  • Additive color mixing with lighting instruments

  • Mix paint using the three primary hues, black and white

    • Assignment: mix the secondary colors, two tints, two shades and two extra tones

 

Sample Lesson: Scenic Painting

Learning Objectives:

  • The tools of professional scenic painting

  • Picking the correct brush or roller

  • Differentiate between the different types of paints and dyes

  • Correct terminology for the different types of treatments used in professional theatre

  • Priming different surfaces that are commonly used in professional theatre

  • Painting a wood grain and wallpaper treatment

Lecture:

  • PowerPoint

Lab:

  • Prime different surfaces and show differences in treatments

  • Break students into groups and show them two different paint treatments step by step

    • Assignment: each student will be expected to try and duplicate each step of both treatments
